On 20 April 2010, BP’s Deepwater Horizon Rig exploded, resulting in the largest oil spill ever recorded within U.S. waters.

Investors have challenged public statements issued by BP between 9 April 2007 and 28 May 2010 — including pre-explosion misrepresentations concerning the company’s safety mechanisms and procedures on its oil exploration platforms, and post-explosion misrepresentations (starting 26 April 2010) about the status of its ability to control and clean up the spill.

The stock price movement shows the steep decline following the spill.
